Scalability

Topics: Software architecture characteristics

Scalability is a system’s ability to handle growing workloads by adding capacity while keeping response times and other service expectations acceptable. Capacity can grow by giving an existing machine more resources (scaling up) or by adding machines (scaling out). Which approach works depends on where the bottleneck lies.
