GNOME’s Super+number shortcuts can be reassigned to switch and move between workspaces.

Switch workspaces with Super+number

Chords of Super+<number> commonly launch favourite applications from the panel. The following script redefines them to switch workspaces like in the i3 Window Manager:

for i in {1..9}; do 
  gsettings set org.gnome.shell.keybindings "switch-to-application-$i" "[]"
  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings "switch-to-workspace-$i" "['<Super>${i}']"
  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings "move-to-workspace-$i" "['<Super><Shift>${i}']"
done
