eCryptfs is an easy way to encrypt parts of a filesystem, for example a user’s home directory.

Changing the encryption passphrase

This is necessary if the user password is used as encryption passphrase via PAM.

ecryptfs-rewrap-passphrase /home/.ecryptfs/$USER/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase
